Rebirth Online III – The beginning [prologue]

(Ps: this series contains spoiler of Rebirth Online and a summary ending for Rebirth Online II(which is currently unfinished), as our site title rebirth online world, I want to once again give some love to our founding series Rebirth Online by writing the third series of the title..)

Rebirth Online, it was the name of the first VRMMORPG that introduce the full dive system. It was made available when the synapse reader <<Syder>> in short is able to read the impulses and synapses to decipher the brain. It was able to send and read the reaction of the brain by connected directly into it. Rebirth Online itself was booming however it was closed one day because of the hidden secret behind it. Some is using it for military training method, some is using it for brainwashing, and some even use it as a pretext of developing an ‘ultimate AI’. Dr. Schneider, the main developer of the system was actually the main culprit behind all of this.

Few years later, a new game called Rebirth Online II was released to the public. Those who missed playing Rebirth Online welcomed this with heart of joy. The game itself becomes another hit with a new version of <<Syder>> that will protect the user brain from being tampered by the system. However another layer of truth is unveiled. Dr. Schneider actually successes his research; apart from being able to Read and Write the ‘brain’, he is able to ‘Copy’. Dr. Schneider whose body is dead in reality is still living inside the virtual world. Although he is finally defeated, but nobody knows if he is actually being ‘Killed’.

Dr. Schneider research however advances the humanity one step further. He makes it possible for ‘human’ to move their consciousness into ‘machine’. The process is no longer a ‘copy’ but a ‘cut’ and ‘paste’ process.  Not long after, human race was gone from the history book and replaced by the era of ‘cyborg’. All human have moved their consciousness into a metallic robot vassal. Since that day, there is zero death and zero birth.

Having achieved ‘immortality’, money loses its appeal. They don’t need money to be ‘alive’. With endless life span, they started to renew the planet earth. Greenery return after factories for producing ‘body parts’ use renewable and environmental friendly energy and conserving nature. It was as if the earth has return to the prehistoric age with robots living on it.

Having achieved all of that, humanity finally realized that they lacked something. Something, which makes them ‘alive’. Right now, they are all just a bunch of metallic life form that could easily switch out parts if it was broken. As zero birth pronounce, they also lacked the ability to reproduce sexually. They don’t have to maintain hunger as they are moved by battery that could even be recharged as they move. Once again they wanted to regain their ‘mortal’ body however the danger of ‘dying’ is now a fearsome thing for the ‘immortals’. Henceforth they decided to create another world where they could die without hesitation.

A virtual world. Where they could create the glorious body of the former human and experience all the things that they have lost. Feeling of hunger, lust, joy, all returned as they entered the virtual world. Although they didn’t actually feel full in reality when they eat, although they couldn’t produce an offspring, although when they logged out they will return to their metallic body, it was something that they have forgotten for so long.

Thus the virtual world gradually upgraded, thrills were added by involving adventure, monsters, and magic. They also introduced the terms of ‘money’ which they haven’t used for centuries to be used universally inside the game. Illicit sexual activities are banned as they started to relearn the words, ‘love’. They once again started their journey in a brand new world. A virtual world where their dreams can come true, where they once again learn what it takes to be ‘human’.
