Rural Village chapter 2 My name

Hey, It’s dangerous….! Mother, that just now almost hit me! Please care more about me!

I am currently carried on my mother’s back. And while mother is carrying me, she is doing field work. (TL: search baby back carry).

Everytime she swung her hoe, the stick looks like it will hit my head, it’s scary. Hey, mother, If you swing up the hoe too much like that, you will only get tired, you know?

Each time mother swung up her hoe, the baby that is scared to open her eyes, is me.

Somehow, it’s almost 4 months after I was born. There are some things that I know now, but there are some things that I still don’t know.

First, the thing that I know now is that, the area where I am living now is like a small agricultural village.

But looks like the harvests didn’t go well, everyone is skinny.

The name of the village is “Garigari VIllage”. (TL: WTF. literally crunchy village)

Who is it, the person that gave this name! Although the name represents characteristics, It represent this village too much! Please use a name that gave a little better impression.

And the number 2 thing that I know is my name.

My name is Ryou, I was called “Ryou-chan” by my family.

When I first heard about it, I thought that it isn’t a bad name or rather it gives a cool feel considering that I am a girl. But I shuddered when I heard my brothers name.

Let me introduce my brother’s name from the oldest one..

Eldest son Hajime (13 years old),

Second son Jiro (12 years old),

Third son Saburo (10 years old),

Fourth son Maru (6 years old),

Fifth son Shuu (3 years old)

Everyone, did you noticed it?

Although 3 of my eldest brother have an easy-to-understand simple name, the fourth boy is “Maru”, In terms with the flow it should be “Shirou”! Is what I want to say, but it’s Maru. Next is “Shuu”, and I am next “Ryou”.

I was startled when I noticed it. In other words, my parent’s naming sense story is like this.

First let’s use the name Hajime, Jirou, and Saburou in order.

However when the fourth was born, they named their son “Maru” as in “Let’s stop making children.”. The punctuation mark “。”.

(TL: that punctuation is called maru in japan. and it means end of a sentence. also hajime jirou and saburou has 1,2,3 kanji)

However, because a baby was born again, they gave the name “Shuu” as in they wished for “This is really the last time ok?”

(TL: i guess shuu her mean end of the week?)

However, nevertheless I was born, so they gave the name “Ryou” with the meaning “This time it’s really the end(Shuuryou) ok?”

Uuu, I was shocked when I noticed about this!

Cool! Even though I think  I liked it!

I really wished I didn’t noticed. Kuuu, I resent my own excellence. However, nothing will happen even if I said such thing.

That is my name. If I forget the meaning, It sounded like a pretty good name. Let’s forget about this thing….un….

However my parents, said to make sure I didn’t cry at night, spent their hot nights right beside me. Hey, I am here right next you though? The eldest brother is also looking through the slit of the opened door curiously!

Sigh, It’s pointless if you just say “Shuuryou” with only your child’s name ok!

Please take care about it!

…..What on earth will be the next child’s name. Uuu, If I gonna have a brother or a sister, I will be the one that give them a name.

With that in mind, although my parents have a reputation for inappropriate naming sense,  their lifestyle is also quite inappropriate.

First, I don’t think they are suitable to become a farmer. How to say it, their way of growing such wonderful crops are sloppy.

That’s why, even though I think this village is called Garigari Village because the harvest of the field is not going well. I, that is still being carried on the back can’t do anything about this circumstance. It’s irritating. Even though I understand the language, my mouth muscles still aren’t developed enough to pronounce anything. Even if I tried to say something, only sounds like “obuobu” came out.

I am just a burden right now. Even though my 3 oldest brother already helping out in the fields.

Apparently, in this village, 10 years old or older children are basically already regarded as labor forces. That means my 3 oldest brother have to help the fieldwork.

So that they don’t interfere with work, children that that is not yet 10 years old goes out to play outside with other children.

Well, a baby like me can’t go out to play, but is bounded to my mother’s back.

Uuun. I have to quickly be able to walk somehow…..hurry.

Move, my body! Awaken!

Nothing happens even If I shouted in my heart.

And also…why, am I rushing myself like this….It’s because my family is really poor.

Even though I have the feeling that I want to help my family and brothers, in the end it’s for my own sake.

Although I don’t want to think about it too much, “Reducing mouths to feed”….In other words, killing or selling unhelpful children (Like me)…..I am slightly concerned about that.

It may just be my imagination, but sometimes my mother sees me with a scary eyes. I am serious.

Besides, I am curious why are there only boys.

I think my parents also didn’t give any impressions like “This is the first time a daughter was born”. It’s probably….. because of that, I think.

That’s why, it’s dangerous if I don’t try to appeal my usefulness somehow.

For the time being, I have to be try to walk and talk before I am 1 year old. That’s why mother, don’t act hastily. I am the girl that produces gold!

  3. That naming sense….wtf. WTF
Maybe the next one would be related to ‘abstaining’ since they can’t really stop no matter how much children they give birth and name them to stop =.=

    Thanks for the chapter~~

  4. Thanks for picking this up. At least those parents put a little thought into their kids. A college friend told me about her ex, whose elder siblings were named Stephen & Stephanie. His name was totally different, guess who was unplanned.
