Rebirth Online World prologue
……………………………………………
(Author note: I know I got too many series left unfinished but this will be a main project with (hopefully) daily releases. Once again, I want to raise the flagship of Rebirth Online World. Just look at the series name, it’s Rebirth Online World. Let my spirit once again take you away to the reason Rebirth Online World exists, to show you my crazy idea that lured you in.)
……………………………………………
There once lived a boy. His name was Rain. He grew up in a normal family. However since he started to show his intelligence at a young age, his parents have always expected something big from him. Even until now, when he was about to turn seventeen. He always gets first place in the school academics. He always studied when he returned from school. As if his smart brain was not enough, he studied tirelessly so he will keep on staying at the top.
His parents didn’t really think much about that until finally they asked him. What did he want for his birthday presents?
In an era where gaming had taken another step into Virtual Reality, Rain never really cared about gaming. Not until one day his friends talked about a VRMMORPG game with a spark in his eyes. At that point, Rain became curious: what is this gaming world that can cause his friend to be so excited? Could it be more fun than studying?
All along his seventeen years of life, Rain always immediately came back from school and never really played around. He even studied during school breaks so he never really had a true friend to talk with him on hobbies. Because of that, the only thing he knew was studying. Seeing the expression on his friend face, the word gaming finally piqued his interest.
So, when his parent asked him about his birthday presents, he answered he wanted a ‘game’.
His parents were surprised at first. But they understood. Their son probably needed something as refreshment so he would not be bored. It had been a wonder as to how he had managed to do it so far, as if he was robot. In fact, his parents were happy for this.
So, on his seventeenth birthday, Rain finally obtained his first ‘game’. His parents were both doctors so they were always busy with their work. The gaming world was also something new for them. So for his birthday, they went to a game shop and asked the shopkeeper what would be a good gift for him.
Of course when VR games were taking the top spot, the sale of other types of games would suffer. Seeing the two oblivious prey in front of his eye, the shopkeeper didn’t miss the chance.
What Rain got for his birthday wasn’t a VRMMORPG game. It was only a normal MMORPG game. In fact, it was the only MMORPG game left on the market. Rain didn’t get a VR gear for his birthday, he only got a simple program DVD.
Him being as oblivious as his parents, Rain didn’t think much about it. Thus he installed the game into his computer that had only been used for doing homework and school tasks.
「Rebirth Online World」, that was the name of the game. As per why this game could still survive in the middle of the VRMMORPG era, there was an answer.
When it first came out, Rebirth Online World was the first MMORPG game that used the First Person Perspective. The game camera didn’t have a third person view or bird’s eye view. It made it harder for players to know what was happening around them but it was also said that it was the foundation upon which current VR games were based off.
The second reason that it was still around was the game itself had a balanced mechanic that had survived for so long and had various character 「Classes 」for the player to choose from. Not a small number of VRMMORPG game that were now a hit on the market right now, actually bought or copied the class system from Rebirth Online World. In simple terms, it had been the beta testing server for the current VR gaming system.
Thus after fifteen minutes of installing the program onto his desktop, the crystal blue monitor in front of Rain showed him five words.
“Welcome to Rebirth Online World!”

So can I ask the reasoning of making it not vrmmo based?
If you are using this mmorpg as a way to get him familiar with [games] then that’s a good Idea. I imagine you will use his studying to make him quickly become one of the tops in this game before he goes off into the vr game? If you only plan to have him play this game that’s fine as well, will be interesting I guess.
This is a whacky ride.. Be prepared Xp..
Rain? Will he in black too? I like the MC in that manga!
I suggest putting a summary if you want in the project so you can pique people’s interest but its ok.
Wow, those feels. Idiot parents buying what the store tells them, or just ignoring their child’s (my) preferences to get what they think they should want. I wanted Age of Empires they bought me Myst, boohoo 😦
Although in recent years I do appreciate Myst more, at the time I was miserable. Parents, if your child requests a Violin, you would not buy them a fucking Cello, how is this different? Mostly this had nothing to do with what happened in the story, just me venting.
Thanks, also, this story looks interesting so far.
