Master of Dungeon chapter 3 – master of dungeon
Varn realize that his parent is no longer alive. He cried really hard that night until he passed out. When he wake up in the morning he realize he is no longer in the Guild hall.
“Ah, you have wake up. I’m really worried.”
Varn see a woman around late twenty years old, dressed in purple uniform sitting not far from him.
“My name is Clarise. Jack asked me to take care of you. Last night you’re crying and won’t listen to me.”
“Last night?”
Varn remember what happened yesterday. His hand still holding two black [fate tag] and wouldn’t let go of it. He cried again but now after a couple of minutes he calmed down.
“Where am I?” Varn asked Clarise.
“You’re in the Guild hall resting room. I’m working as Ribby’s Guild hall receptionist by the way.”
Varn doesn’t seemed to be interested in Clarise words and trying to get up from the bed.
“Where are you going? You better rest some more.”
Varn ignore her and walked out of the Guild hall.
“I need to check on Mom and Dad.”
Even though he knows that his parent is now already in the afterlife. At least he want to give their body a proper burial.
He walked back, entering the forest until he arrived at the place where he get seperated from his mother.
The dead couldn’t tell a story.
He only saw some bloodstain on the ground. His mother body is nowhere to be found.
“Mom…. Sob…”
He cried once again and clenching his fist. He wipe his tears and walked once again towards his father location.
That place is in a mess. Sign of claw cut trough a tree, blood splattered everywhere, his father is luckier than his mother. At least he left something behind, his right arm.
Varn run to Gerrard’s right arm and held it.
“Father.. You have promised to teach me how to be a great farmer. How could you leave me here alone.”
Varn walk towards his village. He is walking like a dead man. No hope can be seen from his eyes.
The green scenery of Bruit village is now gone. Houses burnt down, leaving only some building intact but it doesn’t missed by the fire. Smell of blood and burnt wood fill the air.
“What is the purpose.. Of me surviving this? Mom, Dad, why don’t you take me with you.”
Varn fall down on his knees and shout to the sky.
…….
“Mister Silver, look there’s a survivor.”
Two man walking side by side. One of them is the one called Silver. His tall body is covered by silver armor. He carries a spear on his back. Long blonde hair and green eyes decorate his long face. Some wrinkles can be seen on his face showing his age that isn’t young anymore.
“Danny, check on the boy!”
“Yes sir.”
Danny walks towards Varn. Danny is a teenage boy, clothed in leather armor and carried a big backpack on his back. Green hat on his head cover his short brown hair.
“Boy, did you come from this village? Can you tell me what happened?”
But Varn didn’t give him a reply. He only muttered all the time.
“What is it boy? I can’t hear you.”
Danny tries to move his ear closer to hear what Varn is saying.
“Mom, Dad, Mom, Dad…”
Danny then moves toward Silver.
“Sir, it seemed he lost his parent. That must be a big mental blow for him.”
Silver observed Varn and didn’t say anything.
“Danny, let’s leave.”
“Eh, sir! You’re going to abandon the child?”
Silver took a last glance at Varn and said.
“You see, his eyes shows no life. He’s as good as dead. Look at him hugging that arm, it must be belong to his parent. He already decided to follow their path. Let’s leave.”
“Eh! He’s holding an arm?”
Danny take a closer look and realized that what Silver said is true. A boy holding an arm, stay motionless in the middle of a massacre scene. Is this a sign of someone that want to be saved? No, Danny shook his head. It’s better to just leave Varn alone.
“If we save him, do you want to take the responsibility for him?”
Danny fell into silent. He didn’t think that far. After they saved the boy, they need to take care of him and it will be troublesome.
“Come, let’s report this to the Guild hall.”
Silver than walks away from Bruit village followed by Danny.
………
“Aaaaaa…”
Varn want to say something but his mouth couldn’t let out any voice. After running last night, crying all night long, and do the same thing today without eating or drinking, he is already dehydrated.
“Am I going to die?”
“Even the two man that come earlier don’t want to save me.”
“Mom, Dad, I’m coming after you.”
Just when Varn is going to lose his conciousness he heard a deep coarse voice.
“Oh my! What do we have here?”
Varn could open his eyes but judging from the voice, it must be coming from an old man.
“Boy, with a great fate like you, I couldn’t let you die.”
Varn still listen to that voice. “Great fate? Even my [fate tag] shows ?????”
“Heh heh heh.. You don’t know how wonderfull is your fate boy.”
Varn startled hearing the old man and his odd way of laughing. “Can he read my mind?”
“Heh heh heh.. Of course I can read your mind, afterall I’m the most powerful existence in this world.”
Varn is now confused. “Who is this man? And what’s with this the most powerful existence in the world?”
“Oh! You questioned me boy? Heh heh heh.. Let me do something about this first.”
Little by little Varn could feel that his body felt warm and comfortable. His strength returned to his body and he can open his eyes. The first thing he see is an old man clad in grey robe. His hair is all white and long white beard on his face makes him look wise.
“Old man, who are you?”
“As I have told you, I’m the most powerful man in the world.”
Varn realized his condition and he is angry.
“Why did you save me? I’m about to meet my parent.”
“Heh heh heh. How could I let someone like you to die. You have great fate.”
“Great fate again? What’s wrong with you. My fate is ???????. It’s unknown. Now, please kill me.”
“Heh heh heh.. Are you sure your fate is ?????? You better check your [fate tag].“
The old man moves his hand and Varn’s [fate tag] flies out of his pocket and landed on his arm.
He take a look at it.
————–
Name: Varn Redheart
Age: 7
Fate: Master of Dungeon
——————
His fate of ????? Have changed, but he doesn’t know what his fate is.
“Master of Dungeon? What is this?”
“Heh heh heh.. Do you know what is a dungeon?”
The old man questioned him as if he was a fool.
“Of course I know.”
“Then, what is a master?”
“A master should be the one who gives order, in control, or have high position right?”
“Heh heh heh.. You’re correct.. The last question, so what is master of dungeon?”
Hearing the old man question, Varn is shocked. Does it mean he will be able to control a dungeon? Gives order to the monster inside?
“Heh heh heh.. You’re correct again. What a smart boy.. But you couldn’t control any dungeon or any monster. You could only control yours.”
“What does it mean?”
Varn brain couldn’t process the old man words.
“Do you know how a dungeon appears?”
Altough his age is still small, but having a dungeon raider as a father and Guild hall receptionist as a mother, his knowledge about dungeon is better than other child. However this question, he didn’t know the answer.
“It just.. appear right?”
“Heh heh heh.. Wrong!”
The old man laugh harder.
“Then, how could those monster attack your village and kill your parents?”
Varn couldn’t think of anything now. He remember his mother said something about the same phenomenon.
“It’s because the dungeon ranked up right?”
“Heh heh heh.. It’s not entirely correct and not entirely wrong..”
Varn is now ticked off.
“Old man! Stop playing with me and just tell me the answer.”
“Heh heh heh.. Alright alright, I’ll tell you. It’s my duty afterall.”
The air around the old man changed somehow.
“My name is Ferluci. I’m this world dungeon watcher.”
Dungeon watcher! It’s also the first time Varn hear that.
“Do you know that a dungeon is ranked based on the difficulty to clear it?”
Varn nod. Of course it was a common knowledge.
“Actually, the rank isn’t based on the difficulty of the dungeon. But based on the power of dungeon master.”
Dungeon master! It should be the same as him. Master of dungeon.
“Wait, does it mean every dungeon have a master?”
“Heh heh heh.. What a smart boy. You’re correct. Every dungeon has a master. If not, how can dungeon appears one after another? How could the monster within the dungeon spawned? Who put the artifact inside the dungeon? How could monster attacks your village?”
“What? Do you mean that someone commands the monster to attack my village?”
The old man smiled.
“That is correct.”
Varn blood is now boiling. Someone is ordering monster to attack his village and kill his parent.
“Old man, tell me who is that person? Who ordered the monster to attack my village!”
“Hold your horse boy! If you go right now, you’re going to be killed.”
“Tell me, what I have to do then?”
“Of course, as a master of dungeon you have to build your own dungeon and gather power. Once you have A rank power, you may have a chance.”
That statement brings thunder in the clear sky in Varn minds.
“I have to build my own dungeon and gather power?”
Varn know the reason he need to be at least A rank because were-wolf that attack his father is an A rank monster. But, building his own dungeon? He has no clue about it.
“Heh heh heh. Don’t worry boy, that’s why I’m here. I will teach you all about dungeon creation but only the basic knowledge, afterall it was my job.”
The old man than corrected his posture and stand straight.
“Varn Redheart, do you accept your fate as a master of dungeon?”
The old man voice echoed in Varn’s mind. To know the truth behind his parents murder, to take revenge for the villager, he firmed his resolve. This is something that he must do.
“I am Varn Redheart, accepted my fate as a master of dungeon.”
Master of Dungeon chapter 2 – Black
Gerrard, Sandra and Varn were running with all their might. The fire that burnt down the village got brighter and changed the night to be as clear as day.
“Gerrard, what happened?”
“I don’t know. Monsters started attacking our village. From what I know, they should stay in the dungeon right?”
Gerrard asked Sandra but she shook her head.
“No. This happened once before.”
Hearing that he was shocked and surprised.
“What? How can it be that I didn’t know about it?”
“It was a secret. This happened once at the A rank dungeon Magora. Monsters suddenly came out and attacked the surrounding area. After the monster had been dealt with, the dungeon rank was upgraded to S rank.”
“Why doesn’t anyone know about that?”
“Even within the Guild Hall, this information is strictly confidential and the witness of that incident were all dead.”
“You mean?”
Sandra only nodded while Gerrard face was full of disbelief. Varn can only listen silently.
“How can such an important piece of information be hidden from the people?”
*rustle* *rustle*
*ROARR*
Before she could say anything, a loud voice can be heard from behind them and animal cries filled the air with terror.
From behind them a five meter tall wolf stood on it’s hind legs while using it’s front leg similarly to a hand. It was a human shaped wolf.
“Were-wolf!”
Sandra and Gerrard shouted in unison.
“Sandra, quick take Varn out of here.”
“No, I know that you’re strong but a were-wolf is an A rank monster.”
Gerrard looked at Sandra and she could see that she had already made her decision.
“Sandra, if you and Varn die, what would be the use of me living? If I could die protecting the both of you, it will be the biggest happiness in my life.”
Hearing that tears flowed down from both Sandra’s and Varn’s eyes.
“Please, you must stay alive.”
She knew she won’t see these words fulfilled.
“Dad, you haven’t taught me how to plow the farm, how to grow the vegetables. You promised to teach me!”
Gerrard looked at his wife and son.
“Don’t worry. Your dad is a former dungeon raider after all. Leave it to me!”
He nodded again and Sandra understood. She grabbed Varn and ran again. Gerrard on the other hand looked towards the were-wolf and charged.
“Hiiiaaaaaa! I won’t let you pass!”
*clang*
The sound of his sword clashing with the were-wolf’s claws traveled through the jungle’s breadth. Varn who heard that can only look back while he kept moving forward.
“Mom, where are we running to?”
“After we pass through the jungle, there’s a town called Ribby. There’s the Ribby dungeon nearby so there should be many of dungeon raiders. We’re going to look for help.”
However, just a few minutes later, a few wolves had already caught up to them.
*growl*
“Mom!”
Sandra had noticed that they were not in a good position.
“Varn. You must head first to Ribby town. I’ll hold them back.”
“But Mom! You can’t fight.”
“No buts. Hurry or all the villager from Bruit town may die.”
Varn could only grit his teeth and obey his mother words.
“Mom, be careful!”
“I should be the one saying that. You be careful too.”
Sandra gave Varn a hug before letting him go. She knew that this may be her last chance to hold Varn in her arms.
“Now go! I love you.”
Sandra turned her body to face the wolves after sending Varn away. The wolves were circling Sandra and waiting for the opportunity to attack.
“I’ll show you the strength of a mother!”
She shouted and lunged forward into the wolf pack.
………
*pant* *pant*
After running for an hour, Varn stamina had ran out. He was now breathing hard.
“I can’t stop here. My father and mother is waiting for me to bring someone to help them.”
As he ran forward and took out two [fate tags]. It was Gerrard’s and Sandra’s. It was still red – meaning that they still lived.
“That’s the town!”
Varn could see the lights that came from the town. He used it as his guide to reach Ribby town.
“HELP! HELP!”
He was shouting hard and a few of the sentries saw him.
“Boy, what happened?”
“My village was attacked by monsters. Please you have to help me!”
The sentry thought for a moment that it was impossible, since monster only appeared in the dungeons, but seeing Varn expression they believed that he wasn’t lying. The sentry then shouted to his companion and said.
“Quick, gather the dungeon raiders in town. Tell them that it is an emergency.”
Five minutes later Varn was in Ribby Town’s Guild Hall surrounded by more than thirty dungeon raiders.
“What is it Jack? Why did you ask us to gather here?”
A big masculine man, with a big axe on his back and a scar on his cheek asked the sentry while yawning.
“Here, listen to this boy.”
“Mister, please save my parents and the villager of Bruit town. When we’re sleeping monsters suddenly attacked us.”
“Huh? Don’t tell lies boy. How could it possible?”
“Rick, look at his expression. He couldn’t be telling lies.”
The sentry said to the man.
“Please believe in me mister.”
“Even if I believe in him, why should I go?”
The other dungeon raider didn’t show any protest against Rick’s statement. It seemed that he was the leader of this group.
“What do you mean?”
The sentry was the only one questioning him.
“As I said, we dungeon raider only raid dungeons. We don’t have any responsibility to help others.”
The sentry was boiling with rage and asked him back.
“You! How can an A-rank dungeon raider like you, Rick from the Steel claw group act like this!”
Hearing that the man came from an A rank group, Varn saw a glimmer of hope.
“Mister please! With your power you definitely could save my village. What attacked my villages only wolves and one were-wolf.”
Hearing Varn words, Rick startled.
“Were-wolf? Wolves are no problem since they are only C-rank monster, but were-wolf is an A rank monster. Knowing that we’re going to raid the Ribby dungeon tommorrow, why should I go and put my group at risk of being injured?”
“You! So are you planning to let those people die?”
The sentry was now grabbing Rick collar.
“Heh, I definitelly won’t be going. If anyone of my subordinate wants to help then feel free to take them.”
Jack the sentry then turn his body to the crowd.
“Please, anyone of you, help this child saving his village!”
Varn had expected some to help him, but they all kept silent. Rick finally shouted from behind.
“Who are we?”
“Steel claw!”
The men reply in unison.
“What we do?”
“Raid dungeons!”
“Now, will we help this boy?”
“No we won’t!”
“You are unbelieveable! Come on kid, let’s try to go to Kine town. It’s only two hours away on horse.”
Jack tried to take Varn away but Varn knew it will be too late by then. A place two hours away will take four hours in total just for travel. Varn then fell to his knees and begged Rick again.
“Mister Rick, please help my parents! I’ll give you anything in return.”
Seeing Varn kneeling there, Rick didn’t even change his expression.
“Listen boy! We dungeon raiders do not work for charity. We’re working as dungeon raiders for the money. No one here is crazy enough to risk their lives to do that kind of chivalrous action.”
“If it’s money, my parents will pay you.”
“Hmph! How much do you think your parents could pay us. What’s more, Bruit village is only a small village. Even if you gathered all of the village’s fortune, it wouldn’t be enough for me to even swing my sword.”
Varn then cried and grabbed Rick’s leg. He was still pleading to him.
“Mister please mister! Help me!”
*sob* *sob*
*swish*
Rick swung his leg and sent Varn flying backwards, hitting the wall.
“Guh!”
“You, what are you doing?”
Jack saw Varn flying across the room and hitting the wall on the other side. He quickly went to Varn to check on his condition. He was unconcious.
“Rick! I won’t forgive you for this.”
Jack sent a glare at him but Rick returned it with murderous eyes that sent chills up Jack’s spine.
“Who do you think you are? Just because you’re the town’s mayor son you think you could talk like that to me? Men, let’s get back and rest. We’re going to enter Ribby dungeon tomorrow.”
Just like that the Steel claw group left the Guild hall. Jack then tried to wake Varn up.
“Boy, wake up!”
Varn eyes slowly opened and he noticed that the dungeon raiders had gone.
“Sir, where are they going? Are they going to save my parents?”
Varn asked emotionally but Jack could only fall silent.
“Sir, tell me that they’re going to help me! Tell me that they’re going to save my parents! Please tell me!”
Two stream of water soon fall from Varn’s eyes to the ground.
“Sir.. Hik.. Please tell me… Hik… They’re going to save my parents… Hik…”
Jack couldn’t bear to watch Varn so he stood up and headed for the exit. Before he went out Jack said to Varn in a low tone.
“I’m sorry….”
After Jack gone, Varn cried out as loud as he can.
“HUAAAAAA… FATHER… MOTHER… I’m sorry… I couldn’t bring people to help you.. I couldn’t bring people to save the village.. I’m sorry…”
Varn then remembered the back of his father after he said “leave it to me” .
He also remembered the last words from his mother. “I love you.”
He was hoping that they were okay. Varn then remembered that he was holding to his parent’s [fate tags].
He put his hand into his pocket and took out Gerrard’s and Sandra’s [fate tags].
They had turned black.
Master of Dungeon volume 1 chapter 1 – Fate
Bruit village was a small village with roughly two hundred people living in it. It was part of the Elora Kingdom and occupied the Southern Territories. Located near a river that flowed through the west side of the village, farming based life grew prosperous. The east was decorated with wheat and corn fields while the north was surrounded by forest; Bruit was a small but lively village.
In Bruit village, Varn grew up showered full of love by his parents. His father Gerrard was a former C rank dungeon raider. He sometimes told his adventures in the dungeons to Varn. However Varn never aspired to become a dungeon raider. His parents also told him that it was dangerous and they didn’t want to lose their child.
Varn grew up to be an average boy, with nothing special in particular. He spent his day leisurely and wanted to be a big farmer when he grew up. He had several friends whom he liked to play with.
“Congratulations!”
When he got back from playing outside and openned the door, he found his parents inside having prepared a surprise party for him. Today he reached seven years old. He came in and hugged his parents.
“Mom! Dad! Thank you.”
“Hahaha. Finally our boy has grown up.”
Gerrard hugged him and played with Varn’s hair, showing his affection. Varn’s father, Gerrard, was a former C rank dungeon raider. Even though right now he was working as a farmer, his body was still muscular. Brown hair and some stubble couldn’t hide his righteous air and his blue eyes showed his good nature. If he were to walk to the town, many girl might fall for him.
“Dad stop that! Today finally I’m seven years old.”
As they talked, they headed towards the dining table and sat down. His mother came and brought some food to the table. Varn’s mother, Sandra was almost thirty this year but her face looked so young; people may mistake her to be twenty. Her long and black smooth hair fluttered when she walked, enticing anyone who saw her. Her petite face and beautiful smile were the reasons Gerrard fell in love with her.
“Varn, today you’re finally seven years old. When you have finished your dinner you can check your presents in your room.”
“Presents!”
Varn immediatelly bolted off from his chair without even touching his food. Gerrard and Sandra can only smile seeing their son’s reaction.
“What have I told you, we should’ve told him about the present later.”
“Haha. What can I do? It’s only natural for a child to be excited about it. After all, it’s his seventh birthday.”
The seventh birthday had a special meaning for the populace. At the age seven, the parents will gift their child a [fate tag]. It was a common artefact that was numerously found in F rank dungeons. In a form of red piece of paper, it had the effect of determining a suitable future for the child. Therefore since their future was known the parents can plan for their children according to the results.
Even if it were a commoner’s child, if the fate listed his future as a prince, this will become true eventually. A nobody carrying a [fate tag] of noble will be accepted anywhere. It had already broken countless noble lineage families when they had found out their children had been tagged as farmer or baker.
Therefore the usage of [fate tag] had now became a custom and the best time to use it was at their seventh birthdays. Since after seven years old the children will have wider opportunities to lay foundation for their fate. Those who were tagged as dungeon raiders could enlist at fighting schools and those who were tagged as workers could learn about their jobs.
Therefore the [fate tag] also served as their identity card. It lists their name, age and fate. When the holder dies, the [fate tag] will turn black. Some dungeon raider have two [fate tags] so that one can be held by his family or companion.
There was some controversy as to whether one could change their fate. There were people that had their [fate tag] change but didn’t know why, although those were rare cases. Only one out of a million experienced this so people kept believing in the [fate tag]. Afterall these artefact were an unknown object. They don’t know how it worked but most people believed that it was a prophecy from God. It was also one of the reasons Gerrard retired from his work. His [fate tag] changed from dungeon raider to farmer the moment he met Sandra. People believe if one tries to defy the [fate tag] only death awaits them.
Varn hurried to his room to find an gift wrapped like an envelope on top of his bed. He reached for it and quickly opened it which would reveal the [fate tags]. By now his parents were already watching him by the door.
“Dad! Mom! Can I open it?”
“Even without me telling you, you will open it anyway.”
His father nods and with eyes full of anticipation, Varn opened the gift. Inside it he found four sheets of [fate tags]. Two new and two used. The used one belonged to his father and mother.
————-
Name: Gerrard Redheart
Age: 33
Fate: Farmer
—————
Name: Sandra Redheart
Age: 29
Fate: Housewife
—————
“You can keep those tags. Now, let us see your fate.”
Gerrard was now recalling a scene in his mind. That day he walked into a branch Guild hall to register for a new dungeon pass. He took out his Guild hall pass and [fate tag] for confirmation. There he saw Sandra working as the receptionist, she returned the pass and Gerrard’s [fate tag] with a concerned look. He noticed it and realized that his fate had been changed to farmer.
Gerrard’s [fate tag] changed to farmer when he saw Sandra and fell in love at first sight. Sandra on the other hand had been waiting for this because her [fate tag] had been a housewife for as long as she knew. Therefore the both of them firmly believed in the [fate tag].
Varn took the new [fate tag] and wondered out loud.
“Dad, how do you use a [fate tag]?“
Gerrard forgot that it was the first time Varn saw a [fate tag].
“You just have to put a drop of blood on the [fate tag]. Here let me help you. Stretch out your finger.”
As a former C rank dungeon raider, Gerrard was a capable man. With a slicing gesture of his hand, Varn can feel that a small wind passed by his finger and a small painless wound appeared, out of which blood came out. He quickly drop the blood onto the two [fate tags] and waited for the effect.
Red streams of light came out from the [fate tag] and enveloped Varn’s body. It was a common sight for anyone using [fate tag] but it was amazing for Varn. He could feel the red stream of light sending warm feelings and his body felt comfortable. After a few seconds the lights went back to the [fate tag] and it glowed brightly. The process had been completed.
“Varn, let us see your fate.”
Sandra put up her hand and Varn gave her one of the [fate tags]. She took it and looked at it with Gerrard while Varn looked at the other one. Somehow their expression changed. Varn who was looking at his own [fate tag] asked his parent.
“Mom! Dad! What is the meaning of this?”
——————
Name: Varn Redheart
Age: 7
Fate: ???????
—————-
“Sandra, what is this?”
“I don’t know. Even when working at the Guild hall I have never seen such a strange fate.”
Gerrard and Sandra looked at each other than looked at Varn.
“Varn, we don’t know what is this but maybe it’s because you are special. Maybe you can decide your own fate.”
They tried to talk to Varn but he was confused.
“So Dad, Mom. What should I do next? Can I still be a farmer?”
Sandra and Gerrard both laughed. Varn didn’t really care about his strange fate and instead asked if he could still be a farmer.
“Don’t worry. As I said before you may be able to determine your own fate.”
“What your father said is true. Now let’s eat the food. Afterall it’s your birthday party.”
The three of them then went back and ate the food. After Varn went back to his room, Gerrard and Sandra had a private conversation.
“Sandra, don’t you think what happened to Varn’s [fate tag] is strange?”
“Yeah Gerrard. I never saw something like this before. Sure there were some weird fates such as becoming a clown, flag drawer, cave secluded monk, but I never saw ???? in any of fate tags.”
“If you don’t know about it then it’s fine. I just hope no harm will fall upon him.”
“Even if that happened, we have you here to protect us. A former C rank dugeon raider is not something to take lightly.”
Sandra put her hand on Gerrard shoulder and pat him gently.
“Don’t worry. I’ll protect you and Varn even if it cost my live.”
Gerrard smiled, drew his face closer to Sandra and kissed her lightly.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
After that the quiet and peaceful night returned to Bruit village.
…….
In his room Varn was looking at the three [fate tags]. He put his father’s and mother’s [fate tags] in his pocket and looked at his own.
What does the ???? mean. Does it mean I could decide my own fate just like Dad told me?
When he was lost in his thoughts he unconsciously fell asleep.
However it didn’t last long. A loud bell rang and loud voices could be heard.
*Ding* *Ding* *Ding*
“WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!”
The shout and the bell resounded without stop.
*drap* *drap* *drap*
Varn woke up and he heard footstep in front of his door.
*Bang*
The door opened and his father and mother already stood there panicked.
“Varn, come here quick!”
He never saw his father expression to be so serious like today so he nodded and followed his order.
“Varn are you okay?”
Sandra hugs him and checked his body, Varn only nodded to respond to her question earlier.
“Mother what happened?”
Just when Sandra sighed in relief and wanted to answer, Gerrard talked to her.
“There’s no time to explain. Sandra quick take the back door and bring Varn out of here.”
*Bam*
The Redheart’s front door was forced open and the door sent flying. Gerrard looked at the entrance and muttered.
“Not good! They already infiltrated the village. Quick Sandra take Vahn out of here. I’ll hold them off.”
Sandra nodded and hurriedly got out. She believed in her husband, afterall he was a former C rank adventurer. C rank adventurer had strength equivalent to a hundred men. She grab Varn by hand and got out of the back door. On the way out, Vahn took a quick glance at his father and saw him fighting with a couple monster that looked like a big wolf.
When Vahn shifted his gaze back, he realized he was already out from his house and saw a frightening scene.
The whole village was on fire. People were screaming here and there; fire was running rampant, burning down everything. What’s more, he saw the same big wolf earlier and there were a lot of them. More than a hundred wolves were killing villagers that tried to run away. His mother and him just stood there in shock.
“Sandra! What are you doing? Run!”
Gerrard came back after defeating a couple of big wolves and ran after them. Vahn can see that Gerrard’s right leg and left arm were bloody and on his chest was a big claw wound.
“Vahn, come!”
Sandra pulled on him again and the three of them ran away, heading to the forest with Gerrard taking the lead.
