Chapter 9 : Creator Of The Labyrinth

After repelling the intruders, Halva began to working restlessly.

She was constructing a room, as ordered by her older brother.

Other than the basic labyrinth creation skills like [Creating Circuit], [Creating small room], and [Creating Large room], additional creation skills such as [Trap Creation] and [Special room Creation] were also used to expand Underground Labyrinth.

Currently, there are more than two hundred passages, big and small, in Underground Labyrinth, along with eighty-four small rooms, twenty-seven large rooms, as well as the room from when the labyrinth was first created. However, this amount of rooms aren’t that a big deal because it doesn’t cost anything to create. Thus, any number of rooms can created to her brother’s content.

Since Alrac doesn’t have the Labyrinth Creation skill, it wasn’t possible for him to help. Therefore, the construction was completely left up to Halva.

In other words, the whole interior of the labyrinth was entirely according to her tastes.

However, some of the rooms were ordered and designed by her elder brother.

Presently, there is only one way to reach aboveground. This is because the skills [Entrance] and [Underground Labyrinth Entrance Creation] were disabled as there currently isn’t enough manpower to be divided to protect two or more entrances.

Afterwards, she was told to create several special rooms. Moreover, she was told to set the traps, with up to fifty at the maximum. However, the rank of the created traps would be on the lower side as only low ranked traps were allowed to be created. Naturally, a great deal of magic was needed to create trap rooms, special rooms, and even inferior rooms outside of the Labyrinth. Hence, it’s prohibited to do so.

However, in this labyrinth where many humans will visit, if they continue to save their magic power, they might be able to make a room outside of the labyrinth in the near future.

For now, they’ve just completed the task of setting up traps.

The type of traps which were used were disposable, and served to warn them of enemy invasion while restricting the enemies’ movements. The traps were set in various parts of labyrinth as if only to annoy the intruders as there were no deadly traps at all. The most fearsome one only entrapped them inside the room by blocking their exit when they closed the door while searching the room for treasure or monsters. However, a thief like Lorna would be able to find their way out immediately. Also, if they kept the door open, they didn’t need to worry about getting trapped at all.

Halva wasn’t interested in such inferior traps, so after she had finished setting up all of them properly, she wondered what kind of room she should make next.

“Now, what kind of room should I make ~ ” She asked with an evil smile plastered onto her face as she played with her long raven-black hair, which reached her feet.

“Do you have any requests?” The person she asked was a goblin.

The goblin chieftain, Purukku, had been called away by her elder brother, so he wasn’t available.

The other goblins were here as escorts for Halva as ordered by their chief. Of course, Halva didn’t need an escort like goblins. On the contrary, they were a burden.

However, since it was wasteful for her elder brother to leave his post, she had received an order to show them around the labyrinth. Thus, Halva wasn’t able to decline them either.

After some time passed, Halva, who could not endure walking in silence, started to talk.

Even though all four of the goblins were shivering from fright, one of them still managed to answer the girl’s question.

“Whatever pleases Halva-sama…”

The goblin was hit lightly, causing a ‘thump’ sound to echo.

The one who hit him was Halva.

“Is it that troublesome to answer? So? What is your answer?” She asked the goblins while smiling.

“Hii!” They shrieked in terror.

“Hey, hey, don’t be frightened ~ ” She lifted the killing intent she had unconsciously released to calm the frightened goblins.

“I will not bully or kill you. It’ll be good if you guys could just answer my question properly.” Halva sighed.

“U-Um ~ ” One goblin piped up.

“Nn? What is it?” Halva questioned.

“To begin with, what is a special room?” Another goblin, different from the first goblin that answered previously, inquired.

That was a reasonable question.

“It’s a room that’s maintained by magic power. It will increase the power of residents of the labyrinth. The special room will be able to restore a person’s life force while a secret room, despite sounding similar, is where magic weapons and armours can be stored inside a book. That is a special room.” Halva explained it plainly.

[TL: I am not really sure with the explanation about explanation of special room, I will go back to it when I ask other translator about it.]

“I… I see. Then, what rooms can Halva-sama create?” The same goblin asked.

Upon hearing goblin’s question, Halva smile and answered.

“I can build anything ~ ”

((((That isn’t an answer!))))

The goblins did a tsukkomi in unison in their hearts.

However, they didn’t have any courage to say that aloud.

Her appearance might be that of a normal human girl, but if you look closely, she’s fearsome, much like a dragon that took human form.

If possible, they didn’t want to speak out loud.

The thought about having to do so anyway made them want to cry. Without understanding the hearts of these weaklings, Halva continued to urge the goblins to give a recommendation.

“After all, isn’t it important to train the body? Seven out of ten people might die, but if we train the remaining three, I wonder if they will become elite soldiers? That reminds me, amongst you is there any born with the talent of magic? It might be good to learn one of the spells that are stored in the library, but most of the people who try to learn it get destroyed by the spell and become a cripple though… Ah, it was also hard to throw away the weapon that had a fearsome curse on it ~ ” The girl rambled, like a fish opening and closing its mouth continuously in water.

Of course, the goblins couldn’t understand most of what she said. However, they pretended to be interested on the outside. Even though they were sleepy because they didn’t understand what she was saying, they still had a serious face and pretended to hear her talk.

“….Therefore, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to make a jail and torture room. Well, there are other things like food storage.” Halva continued on.

“I think food storage is good!”

“Food storage only!”

“Food storage please!”

“Food storage!!”

The moment the topic changed to food storage, the goblins jumped out and gave their opinions.

For an instant, Halva had a surprised look on her face, but suddenly, it turned into a proud smile.

“Then, let’s make a food storage room ~ ” She declared.

For Halva, the goblins and Derito were akin to pets.

As an owner, she needs to prepare meals and something to pass their time, so she activated the skills [Special room creation] and [Food storage].

When she used the skill that only the master of the labyrinth was able to use, Halva was filled with a strange sense of satisfaction. At the same time, part of the Underground Labyrinth started to change.

In the blink of an eye, the room had changed completely.

While its size was unchanged, the room suddenly seemed to be able to fit dozens of people and more. A green pillar, sparkling as if it was made from emerald, was formed in the middle of the room that had nothing up until now. A picture of a beautiful spirit was drawn onto its surface, seeming to promise an abundant harvest.

The central pillar reflected the form of the beautiful spirit which seemed to be confined inside the emerald rather than merely drawn on.

The amount of items, ranging from a leather bag in which wheat can be stored, to a large pan for making soup, to jars to store honey, to other necessary food storage equipment, were also overflowing.

“Oh, such a place!”

“Look for it!”

Halva became full of herself after hearing the goblin’s exclamations.

Meanwhile, the goblins immediately entered the mysterious room that had appeared in front of them, and began to look for food at once.

“Halva-sama, the bag is empty!”

“The pan too!”

“The jar too!”

“There is nothing!”

The Goblins were grieving in the room, which seemed to only have a grand appearance and nothing else, once they realised that there was no food.

“Well this is a storage room. If you don’t put any food inside, of course there will be nothing in it.” Halva elaborated.

“So, it can’t be created using magic ~ ?!” One of the goblins cried out.

“Ahaha! Stupid, stupid!” Halva laughed happily as she looked at the goblins’ faces since she was having fun looking at the crying faces of the goblins who were ignorant about magic.

“The Creation System spell consumes more magic power than you think. Rather than using it to prepare a meal, it’s much better to create an Artificial Human or a Devil Beast with it!” She explained.

“”””????”””” The goblins were confused, not understanding what she was saying.

“Well… To put it simply, it’s impossible to create food because I can’t waste magical power at this moment.” She told them.

The goblins were disappointed once they heard her explanation.

However, Halva told them to not be sad, and to take advantage of this room instead.

“This room, just like what its name suggests, is a food storage room. All sorts of food will not rot here, and the food’s freshness can be permanently kept to how it was before it was put into the room.” She explained.

“Eh… Erm… What do you mean?” One of the braver goblins asked.

“The bread and fruit will not spoil, as if time was stopped in the state it was in before it entered the room. Even if the food was cooked one hundred years ago, you can still eat it if you store it here.”

“”””????”””” They still could not understand what she was trying to tell them.

To the Goblins who still didn’t understand how wonderful this room is, Halva began to try to explain it to them kindly.

“Let’s talk about something else. Have you guys ever hunted big game?” She started off.

“We have.” A goblin answered.

“Then, after you finish cooking and eating it till your stomach is full, what would you do with the remaining meat?”

“I can’t do anything to it. It will rot…. Ah!” One of the goblins exclaimed.

“Did you notice it?” Halva smiled.

“The rest should be put into this room!” The goblin yelled excitedly.

“That’s right. If your next hunt is unsuccessful, the meat can be taken out from this room to be eaten. Store it at this place, and when you want it, it can be taken out from here again.” Halva nodded.

The colour of the goblins’ eyes began to change.

If that story was true, then the number of comrades dying because of starvation would fall sharply.

“Do you understand how wonderful it is?” Halva asked.

“Yes!” The goblins answered.

“Eh, next, I will create a plantation where you can gather food ingredients, and the kitchen where the food can be cooked.” Even though she grumbling about how troublesome it was, hearing her words made the goblins’ eyes brighten.

Halva turned to look at them with a wicked smile on her face.

“Well ~ Did you guys do your work properly?” She asked.

“Ye-Yes.” They stammered.

“Don’t misunderstand. Failure isn’t permitted. If you are ordered to die, then you will do so while smiling.” She told them coldly.

“…….” They kept silent, frozen in fear.

“If you’re able to report the reason why you failed, and are able to learn from it, or fix it the next time, then I will permit it. If you are able to show me a better plan than what was ordered, then I will adopt it.” Her beautiful blue eyes seemed to be boring into the goblins’ flesh.

Though the words seemed gentle, the feeling of fear penetrated deeply into the goblins’ hearts.

“However. All of you must be loyal to us. I will not permit a lie, I will not permit laziness, and I will not permit any illicit sex.” She declared.

“Y-Yes!” They replied quickly.

“Onii-sama might permit it because he’s gentle… However, I will not permit it! Never!” She glared at them.

“Hiii!!” They shrieked in terror.

[TL: there goes my hope for harem…. Alrac you are my last hope!]

[ED: *shrug* Feels like she just raised a flag though…]

Was that anger they sensed at the last word?! The goblins were close to tears as they prostrated themselves on the ground, praying desperately that she would not direct her anger at them.

Looking at the Goblins who have dropped onto the ground with cold eyes, she sighed lightly before speaking with a bright voice.

“Ahaha! Don’t be afraid. Ah, it hurts ~ ” She laughed while clutching her sides.

[TL: the hurt is because of laughing]

“….. Ye-Yes.” They stuttered.

To the goblins who were shivering, Halva told them to return and rest.

Since they originally didn’t need to stick together, there should be no problems.

“See ya.” While she was saying so, she started to cast a transference spell.

“Jus-Just a moment, please.” One of the goblins stopped trembling and stopped her.

“Yes. We will go together.” Another goblin stated.

“Because we are your guards…” A goblin added.

“Pro-Protect!” The last goblin tried to say that bravely.

While looking at the goblins, Halva became expressionless for a moment before smiling innocently.

“Who is the guard..? Ah, alright… I will receive your sincerity.” Halva hummed, and they advanced to another labyrinth room together.

While the goblins were standing behind her timidly, they were still walking so that they would not lose sight of her.
